Nuno Filipe Oliveira Santos (born 9 July 1978) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for S.C. Covilhã as a goalkeeper.
Born in Coimbra, Baixo Mondego, Santos started his professional career with Lisbon and national giants Sporting Clube de Portugal. Barred by the likes of Peter Schmeichel and Ricardo during his spell, he only appeared once for the first team, and was loaned to several clubs during his contract, including F.C. Penafiel in the 2003–04 season, in the second division.[1]
After helping the northern club return to the top level, Santos had his loan extended until 30 June 2005.[2] At the end of the season, as the club finished in 11th position and retained its division status, he was signed permanently.[3]
Subsequently, Santos played for Vitória de Guimarães, battling for second-choice duties with Serginho, as Brazilian Nilson was the undisputed starter. In the 2009–10 season, he left for Vitória de Setúbal on a free transfer, and appeared in 15 matches during the season – the other goalkeeper, Mário Felgueiras, played in 14 – as the Sadinos barely avoided first division relegation.
In the 2010 summer, Santos initially signed with Portimonense SC, for one year.[4] However, shortly after, the deal fell through and the player joined Gil Vicente FC in the second level, also in a one-year contract.[5] He played the first match of the new season, a 2–1 home win against C.D. Trofense, but was replaced by Vítor Murta in the 54th minute, after suffering an injury.
